January 2005 Archives
I got my copy of the new iLife '05 from Apple on Friday. I installed it after work and I'm highly impressed by the new features and the new things it lets me do. iMovie is especially nice and the program I've used the most since Friday. iMovie in general really makes it easy to move DV video onto DVD with full editing, effects etc and finishing it off in iDVD. I can't make a proper comparison though because I've never used any video editing software on a Windows PC before. Take that for whatever it's worth to you. I hope to dig into iPhoto more this week.
iDVD is also nice, lots of new menu themes and things like that.
I am SO glad it's Friday. Being off for a couple days is always nice in my book, escpecially when I'm not on call :)
In other news, at lunch today I went with some coworkers and a former employer of mine, Steve. I had talked to him a while back about wanting to take a trip to Japan at some point in the future. Well, since then he's bought a set of language tapes to freshen up on his Japanese that he hasn't used much in many years. Anyway, he was wondering when we're going. I'm not really ready but I'm not going to miss the opportunity to go to Japan with friends, escpecially one who can do the language. Hopefully we can get a time frame sooner rather than later so I can be sure I'm prepared in time.
Also, I need to get a Passport. Will have to look into that ASAP. Like right after I finish this post.
OK, it's official. Awesome new products available from Apple have been announced and start shipping soon. The new Mac Mini, iPod Shuffle, iLife 05 and iWork.
iLife 05 and iWork for sure caught my eye and I'd order them in a second if I had the funds. That will have to wait for payday I guess :)
The new Mac Mini starts at only $499! It's just the computer, have to have your own monitor, keyboard mouse etc but wow!
Check it all out at the links above and share your thoughts.
Was browsing the latest Internet rumors on Snopes and came across this one about an anti-seatbelt advocate who died in a car crash who likely would have lived if he'd been wearing his seatbelt.
I suppose I feel sorry for him but he should have been wearing a seatbelt. I know in my vehicle people wear their seatbelts or they can walk.
It's late, going to bed nowI've been working on getting a workin bugzilla server running now for a while. I downloaded the Fedora Core 3 from Redhat because I figured it really needed a Linux platform to work right. Went through three PCs trying to get a working Fedora and once I got a machine working, I did all the installation stuff for Bugzilla which all worked great. However, I can't access it at all. I get access denied and nobody has been able to help me so far.
However, I'm starting anew on a Windows platform and we'll see if that works better today.
Came across a blog entry from a gentleman who was fired for blogging. Supposedly for “divulging company secrets in a public space". You can check out the link for the full story.
However, it makes me wonder what the "official" policy is where I work? I rarely talk about work and we're a pretty close-knit department, I'll have to ask the boss about that...
Woke up this morning. Looked outside. There was snow on the ground, just a little bit more than we already had when I went to bed though. I took a couple snapshots because the snowplows left me a nice hill to back out through and I have no snow shovel right now. *sigh*
It was a little funny though, after backing out of the driveway, it's a slight incline up my street and the car wouldn't go. Just sat there not going anywhere :)
I had to back up, turn around and go down a different street, hehe. On my way to work the stupidity of Man never ceases to amaze me. I was driving along on a little winding road, going a crisp 25 mph when this moron in a blue chevy comes barrelling up behind me going way too fast just before the street starts going downhill to where you have to stop to get on the highway. He was really pissing me off, I didn't feel like being hit so I slowed way down, waved him on to pass. Let him push somebody else out in front of a semi on the highway. The rest of my journey to work was uneventful.
However, I just got off the phone with my mother who is wanting me to take her to lunch, so that means driving in this stuff again but the roads should be much better. TTFN!
